I have been thinking a lot about “Synergy” for the last few months and in the last and upcoming few days I’m literally practicing it while working with 7 amazing colleagues on a small-scale humanitarian emergency project.

To put it simply, synergy means “two heads are better than one.” Synergize is the habit of creative cooperation, teamwork, open-mindedness, and the adventure of finding new solutions to problems.

It’s the sixth habit of Stephen Covey’s 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Here are the 3 things to remember about synergy

Step 1: Creating synergy is a process

Creating synergy is a process; through that process, people bring their personal experience and expertise to the table,

Step 2: One plus one is not equal to two

Together, a few people can produce far better results than they could individually. It is the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. One plus one equals three, or six, or sixty — you name it.

Step 3: Accepting differences

When people begin to interact together genuinely, and they’re open to each other’s influence, they begin to gain new insight. The capability of inventing new approaches is increased exponentially because of differences. When you’re first starting out, this is all that matters.
